The key operations encompass the preparation and monitoring of the cruise ship arrival calendar, adhering to a transparent berthing policy with the primary aim of avoiding congestion. This includes managing the flow of arriving, departing, or transiting passengers and crews, the logistical organisation of excursions, and the oversight of port security services, which are operating at full capacity.
Furthermore, it involves the organisation of cultural activities, conferences, exhibitions, and fairs, as well as the management of commercial advertising within the terminals and designated concession areas.
In 2023, nearly one million cruise passengers were processed, whether arriving, departing, or in transit, reflecting a significant increase compared to previous years. This remarkable achievement positioned the Palermo Cruise Terminal as the fourth busiest in Italy and the tenth in the Mediterranean. Forecasts for 2024 suggest a continued rise in passenger volumes, accompanied by a substantial investment programme aimed at developing new infrastructure and services, including the New Sammuzzo terminal and an expanded baggage handling area.
