Almería welcomed the MS Hamburg, the first cruise ship of the season, with more than 400 passengers and 150 crew on board. During their stopover in Almería, the cruise passengers have enjoyed organized excursions to Mojácar, Almería and the Alpujarra, exploring the cultural heritage and tourist offer of the province.
Operated by the company Plantours, specializing in luxury cruises, the ship arrived from the port of Gibraltar, in their itinerary which began on 12 february in the Canary Islands and will end on 16 March in Istanbul, after visiting different destinations in Cape Verde, Morocco, Gibraltar, Spain, Greece and Turkey.

Coinciding with this first stopover of the year, the pilot test of the Almería Cruise Friendly program began, an initiative promoted by the Almeriport Foundation, together with the City hall of Almería, “Ashal” and “Almería Centro”, to improve the experience and shopping of cruise passengers in the city. On this day, various shops in the city center opened their doors on Sunday to receive visitors, with a positive reception by both passengers and participating establishments.
In addition, the Almeriport Foundation has enabled a registry for those companies in the hotel and commerce sector that are not part of “Ashal” or “Almería Centro” can register in the Almería Cruise Friendly and benefit from its advantages. This measure, which is provided for in the project´s estatues, seeks to expand the network of affiliated establishments and improve the offer of services for cruise passengers visiting Almería.
