Bodrum Cruise Port, operated by Global Ports Holding, the world’s largest cruise port operator, is dedicated to providing exceptional service and engaging in meaningful social initiatives.

As the 2024 cruise season closes, Bodrum Cruise Port and Marella Cruises partnered on a social responsibility project emphasizing environmental conservation and maritime education. In parallel, the Silver Ray by Silversea Cruises also docked at Bodrum, adding to the vibrant scene on this memorable day.

The event began with a beach cleanup at Giritli Teyze Beach, where high school students joined forces with the Marella Discovery crew to actively contribute to the coastal environment. Following the cleanup, students were guided through an immersive experience at Bodrum Cruise Port, which included a comprehensive introduction to the marina, customs-free and customs-controlled areas, and key operations handled by passport and customs authorities. The students explored the profession of Pilot Captains at the dock and enjoyed a tour of the Marella Discovery.

Highlighting the Role of Maritime Rescue and Community Support

In coordination with the Coast Guard Command, Atilla Suyolcu, the President of Bodrum Sea Rescue, the sole NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) providing free maritime rescue services in Türkiye, the students and Marella team received an informative presentation on the sea ambulance named “Yaşam” and emergency response operations at sea. Mr. Suyolcu provided valuable insights on maritime rescue within the boundaries of Bodrum and how these operations are managed.

“We thank Marella Discovery Captain and team for their partnership and commitment on educating the future generation on maritime and environmental stewardship,” said Aziz Güngör, Regional Director of East Med, Global Ports Holding. “As Global Ports Holding & all its ports around the World, we are dedicated to fostering a sustainable future for both our industry and protecting our oceans by engaging future generations and enhancing their awareness of maritime operations and conservation.”

Olivia Wells, Sustainability Manager from Marella Cruises said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Bodrum Cruise Port as Marella Discovery joins local students in a beach cleanup at Giritli Teyze Beach. This event not only supports the coastal environment but also provides students with insight into various roles and a tour of Marella Discovery. We look forward to many more community activities like this in Bodrum in the future.”

This season-ending initiative further emphasizes Bodrum’s dedication to both cruise excellence and social responsibility, underscoring the port’s commitment to community engagement and environmental awareness.
