Cruise tο Genoa !
In recent years Genoa has developed into a thriving destination for cruise operators and today ranks amongst the leading Mediterranean cruise ports. In 2016 cruise passenger throughput exceeded the 1-million threshold, and the modern dedicated facilities accommodated 249 cruise ship calls.
Stazioni Marittime S.p.A is the company which has been planning, constructing and operating passenger terminals in the Port of Genoa since 1989. The passenger port covers approximately 290,000 sqm of surface area, offering 12 berths, along 3000 metres of quays, and features five passenger terminals.
Two purpose-built terminals are dedicated to cruise traffic. The monumental 16,000-sqm Ponte dei Mille Cruise Terminal can accommodate two large cruise vessels and up to 10,000 passengers a day. The facility features a 340-m quay capable of handling the latest generation of post-Panamax cruiseships, and an additional berth 290 metres in length along the eastern side of the building. The art deco Ponte Andrea Doria Cruise Terminal covers a total surface area of approximately 11,000 sqm and features two berths of 300 metres in length which can host the last generation of cruise ships and accommodate 8000 passengers per day. Both terminals are equipped with mobile gangways, and maximum comfort is offered in the ample departure halls which house an extensive array of passenger amenities.
Genoa’s cruise terminals are at the forefront of safety and security measures, adhering to all recent IMO and EU regulations. Sizable investments have been made in camera and surveillance equipment to ensure 24-hour monitoring of all areas, and in state-of-the-art X-ray luggage scanners and metal detection systems.
Access to the terminals is easy as the passenger port is located just 5 km from Genoa International Airport and 200 m from the railway station, whilst Genoa’s harbour is directly linked to the European motorway network. Ample car and bus parking areas are available adjacent to the cruise terminals to cater for the operational and logistic requirements of the mega-cruise ships.
The Cruise Terminals of Genoa are located in the heart of the Old Port, a vibrant urban waterfront which was the focus of a highly successful ambitious redevelopment scheme on the part of the Genoese architect Renzo Piano, one of the most influential architects in the world. Europe’s largest state-of-the-art Aquarium, situated along the waterfront, is Genoa’s top attraction, with over 1.2 million visitors per year.
