The Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife welcomed the Explora I yesterday, a true masterpiece of navigation belonging to the luxury brand Explora Journeys, part of the MSC Group. The ship docked in Tenerife’s capital city with 260 passengers and 646 crew members on board.

This remarkable vessel, measuring 248.86 meters in length, 32.6 meters in beam, and with a gross tonnage of 63,621 GT, stands out for its modern and sustainable design. With over 400 suites, five pools, and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the Explora I reflects excellence in luxury tourism and underscores Tenerife’s strategic role as the last European port before crossing the Atlantic to the Caribbean.

To commemorate this milestone, Luz Marina Espiau, Head of Commercial and Business Development at Tenerife Ports, presented the ship’s captain, Diego Michelozzi, with the traditional commemorative plaque during a ceremony held on board. The event was attended by representatives from key institutions such as Turismo de Tenerife, the Chamber of Commerce of Santa Cruz de TenerifeZona Franca de TenerifeINtech Tenerife, and the Border Police, among others.

During their stay in Tenerife, passengers on the Explora I enjoyed an unforgettable experience that combined outdoor adventures with cultural richness. From excursions in the Teide National Park, featuring its iconic volcanic formations like Los Roques de García, to kayaking along the Radazul coast, visitors had the chance to immerse themselves in the island’s natural diversity.

Local gastronomy played a starring role as well, with winery visits where passengers sampled traditional dishes such as papas con mojo picón, paired with premium local wines. Culinary workshops and off-road tours through the forests of La Esperanza and the lava fields of Valle de Ucanca added an adventurous and authentic touch to this luxurious experience.

Additionally, this year Tenerife Ports have welcomed other luxury cruise ships such as the Seabourn Sojourn, the Vista by Oceania Cruises, and the Evrima by The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, solidifying the province’s status as a key player in maritime luxury tourism.

In 2025, the arrival of the Explora II is already scheduled, with two confirmed stops in Tenerife, further strengthening Explora Journeys’ commitment to this strategic Atlantic hub.
