A MedCruise delegation including Carla Salvadό, MedCruise President, Thanos Pallis, MedCruise Secretary General, and Valeria Mangiarotti, Marketing Manager, Port Authority of Gagliari, participated in a series of productive meetings with the European Commission, and key cruise stakeholders. The meetings advanced industry initiatives in promoting cruising the Med and its adjoining seas, the future of a pan-European dialogue on cruise, and best practices at cruise ports to promote environmentally friendly cruising.
Following the successful launching event of the Pan-European dialogue between cruise operators, ports and coastal tourism stakeholders, MedCruise joined major stakeholders, including CLIA Europe, ESPO, CPRM, INSULAR, etc, in a meeting structuring the way forward for the Dialogue. The meeting was organised by DG MARE, the European Commission Directorate General for Maritime Policy and Fisheries, concluded with a number of next steps to be orchestrated by the European Commission.
DG-MOVE, the European Commission Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (Ports and Inland Navigation) organised the 1st panel discussion with stakeholders on differentiated port infrastructure charges to promote environmentally friendly maritime transport activities. MedCruise progressed the dialogue and committed to participation to the next steps of it, aiming to promote the dissemination and implementation of best practices in cruise ports in the Med and its adjoining seas.
MedCruise actively participated at the European Sustainable Shipping Forum meeting, intervening in the work of the sub-group on Port Reception Facilities. Mrs Valeria Mangiarotti presented the work that MedCruise has developed in providing to the cruise world advanced intelligence on Waste Reception Facilities available in MedCruise Ports – an innovative MedCruise project, that will undoubtedly inform the progress of the review of the relative European Directive that is currently in progress.
