On 26th October, the port of Ancona welcomed Explora I, the first of six ships from the luxury lifestyle brand Explora Journeys, part of MSC Group’s cruise division.
The port of Ancona has been included among the exclusive itineraries offered by the new luxury company, thanks to numerous local and regional tourist attractions to be visited by the nearly 1.000 international guests.
To celebrate the arrival of Explora I, the traditional “Maiden Call” ceremony was held onboard, with a crest exchange between the ship’s Captain, Diego Michelozzi, the President of Central Adriatic Ports Authority, Vincenzo Garofalo, and the representatives of the main maritime institutions and local authorities.
Mr. Garofalo underlined the high sustainability standards met by Explora I, anticipating the future direction of the port sector. This vision is among the reasons that led the Central Adriatic Ports Authority, the Ancona Habour Master, the Municipality of Ancona, shipping companies, and maritime agents, to sign the Ancona Blue Agreement, to promote the adoption of best practices in environmental management at the port of Ancona, advancing by six months the new regulations on the use of marine fuels, in line with the international MARPOL 73/78 Convention.
