PIANC, the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure, and MedCruise the association of cruise ports in the Mediterranean and its adjoining seas, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding confirming their decision to work in partnership to advance the work.

The main aim of the partnership is to enhance the impact of both Associations in the area of the related maritime transport infrastructure, to co-operate, communicate and collaborate with reference to cruise ports, respecting their individual identities, membership expectations and traditions.

MedCruise and PIANC will support the work of each other through participation in relevant committees, workshops, conferences, and seminars.

The two associations collaboration includes joint activities on international issues such as coordination of efforts on themes of common concerns as there are the development of infrastructure in cruise ports, the co-organisation of seminars/conferences and short courses and educational/training programs or visits for management and staff of ports authorities and port professionals on an international basis.

Thanos Pallis, MedCruise Secretary General comments “This partnership is great news for MedCruise members. PIANC brings together the best international experts on technical issues pertaining to waterborne transport infrastructures. This knowledge will partner with the expertise of our members, advancing the prospects of cruise ports in the Med and its adjoining seas. For MedCruise collaboration with other international port associations is of strategic importance as they facilitate MedCruise members benefiting from the growth of the cruise industry.”

Louis Van Schel, PIANC Secretary General comments “The publication this year of PIANC’s working group report 152 “Guidelines for Cruise Terminals” was the start of the negotiations between both our associations in order to come to a more effective and constructive co-operation in the future. These talks went very fast and in the shortest time we came to a common point of view referred to in this MoU on the collaboration between MedCruise and PIANC. I am very pleased that already now the first concrete projects are discussed and implemented for the mutual benefit of both associations.”
