MedCruise is the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports which represents more than 100 ports in 20 Countries in the Mediterranean region including the Black Sea the Red Sea and the Near Atlantic plus 30 associate members representing other associations tourist boards and ship/port agents. This membership covers 86% of passenger movement and 81% of ships’ calls in the region.
In view of the strategic decisions that are going to be taken in the next weeks on the future development of the cruising activity at the Port of Venice MedCruise wishes to express the need for decisions that would allow the port of Venice and consequently the whole Adriatic system to retain its capacity and thus serve cruise activities for the benefits of the local economies.
MedCruise would like to express its full support to those solutions that will continue to utilize a strategic location such as the Marittima port in the best way possible for the Venice city and the greater regions.
Any decision should not be such that would induce the potential of Cruise Lines to fully review their strategies in the Adriatic Sea and stop or reduce their services. This would result in very serious negative consequences on the economy and employment of the whole Adriatic system and destabilise cruise activities in the Mediterranean region.
