On November 28th, the cruise ship Azamara Journey made her first call at the Southern dock of the Port of Huelva carrying 1,000 persons.
The 181 mt cruise vessel left Gibraltar with nearly 600 passengers of European, American and Canadian origin and a crew of more than 400 people from around the world. She docked at the South Quay at 08.30 and did not leave until 22.00 heading to the island of St. Martin in the Caribbean – according to the company Bergé consignee.
More than 600 of total passengers chose to walk around the streets of the city of Huelva, while around 100 visited the city of Seville.
The Port of Huelva offers passengers bus shuttles that connect the South Pier with the center of Huelva. Near Parque de las Palomas, cruise passengers were warmly welcomed by the theater group alota Tinto, that recreated Discovery American, while they were also offered wine of origin Condado de Huelva. Just before departure, the visitors had once again the chance to taste the exceptional local wine.
While still on board, tourists receive information on the various attractions of the city and the province with the cooperation of the City of Huelva and the Provincial Tourist Board.
The president of the Port Authority of Huelva, Manuela de Paz, explained that the efforts of the Port of Huelva in promoting the port as a cruise destination have paid off, as this year the port has already welcomed six cruise calls and in 2016, 21 calls are expected.
De Paz also highlighted the fruitful cooperation among different institutions, companies and business organisations within the Huelva Cruise Network. In this context, different stakeholders have joined efforts to provide quality services to tourists and obtain positive feedback that would persuade cruise companies to include Huelva in their itineraries. Offering a great experience to all cruise passengers forms first priority.
Huelva Cruise Network meets regularly to coordinate the arrival and departure of the cruises. In this sense, it has created a detailed map of the city concluded by the Huelva City Hall, while the Chamber of Commerce of Huelva has created the label “Vive Huelva Cruises” for shops, bars and restaurants, which assures good quality services and attention to cruise visitors.
Meanwhile, the Port of Huelva offers WiFi in the South Dock so that tourists and crews have free internet access.
The Port of Huelva has promoted the creation of a large working group called Huelva Cruise Network attended by representatives of various business organisations, tourist companies, transport and trade stakeholders, Huelva City Hall, the Tourist Board, Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Employers Huelva, consignees, shipping companies, guides, agents of the State Security Forces, Port Authority of Huelva and other institutions, in order to create the brand Huelva and promote the city as a cruise destination.
