Port of Malaga has carried out an outstanding bonded luggage intermodal operation with no precedents in Spain counting on the collaboration of Cruise Terminal Airport and Customs. The cruise ship ‘Ventura’ belonging to P&O Cruises from Carnival Group arrived to the port on the 26th March at 3.30 a.m with 2538 passengers on board. The bonded luggage was disembarked and after the custom security proceedings was transported directly from the ship to the Airport.
In a reverse operation a total of 2393 passengers coming from the Malaga Airport embarked on the same cruise ship to start their voyage from the port. The inbound luggage was checked in its origin cities and was directly transported from the Airport to ship after passing through the corresponding security scanning at the cruise terminal.
This operation represented a movement of more than 5000 passengers in a hundred of shuttles and 6000 pieces of luggage which were moved from the ship to the airport and the reverse operation to the ship in 14 trucks.
On the other hand the collaboration between the Customs Administration Cruise Terminal and Airport has been key for the operation success. This intermodal operation with bonded luggage has enabled a smoother and faster procedure between the Cruise Terminal and the International Airport.
This action carried out for the first time in a Spanish port represents a high benefit for both the passenger and the cruise line being an important incentive of differentiation for Malaga regarding the turnaround services to be rendered from a Spanish port.
