Seatrade Cruise Med: MedCruise Looks to the Future

This week, Seatrade Cruise Med in Malaga will show a strong presence of MedCruise members exhibiting but also speaking in several panels, focused on diverse major themes like the state of the Mediterranean cruise industry, the social and economic impact of cruise tourism, sustainable destinations, decarbonisation, women leadership in the industry and more.  

On the 13th of September, the association will hold its 65th General Assembly with the election of a new President and Board of Directors for the next 3 years.

On September 11th and 12th, Malaga, a MedCruise port member, will host for the second time, Seatrade Cruise Med, the most important cruise event for the Mediterranean region. The event, organised by Informa Markets and hosted by Malaga Port Authority, Malaga City Council, Costa Del Sol and Andalusia Regional Government will feature over 2,000 attendees and more than 180 exhibitors from over 80 countries.

MedCruise and Seatrade Cruise will also hold together the traditional MedCruise VIP & Seatrade Cruise Med Speakers’ Dinner where 300 guests are expected to attend at Hacienda del Álamo on September 10th.

Symbol of this fruitful long-time collaboration, MedCruise is the principal supporter of the Med edition of Seatrade Cruise. The Association will be well-represented by 13 members or group of members from 6 different countries exhibiting in the 528m² pavilion (Assoporti- Italian Ports Association, Port of Barcelona, BC Tours, Port of Cartagena, Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie de Corse, Croatian Cruise Ports, Marseille Provence Cruise Club, Ports de la Generalitat, Portuguese ports, Ceuta Tourims, Port of Sète, Var Provence Cruise Club, Metropole Nice-Cote D´Azur).

As a key benefit for members, MedCruise 96m² booth #MC12, will be a multifunctional space for members to showcase their ports and services, conduct B2B meetings with over 100 expected but also host workshops, presentations and tasting experiences.

MedCruise Board Directors, Valeria Mangiarotti and Jamil Ouazzani will present “Are We Green Ports? Let’s find out #Together,” sharing latest results from a survey carried by MedCruise on Technical Environmental Solutions, EcoSystems, and Sustainability. Costa Brava Cruise Ports will host a session focused on gastronomy, including a tasting experience.

Seatrade Cruise Med will also offer a large conference programme where MedCruise President and several Board of Directors will take on prominent roles as moderators and speakers. Figen Ayan, MedCruise President and Chief Port Officer at Galataport Istanbul, will be a featured speaker on the iconic panel “The State of the Mediterranean Cruise Industry: Partnering for Progress” with Marie-Caroline Laurent, Chris Theophilides and Mario Zanetti, Mary Bond moderating the discussion. Figen Ayan will also contribute to the “Common Ground: Port Association Dialogue” alongside Monica Berstad, Roger Blum, Klaus Bondam, Simone Tommaso Maraschi, and Ian McQuade.

Valeria Mangiarotti, Marketing Manager at Sardinian Ports, will participate in a roundtable titled “Navigating the Decarbonisation Journey: Synergies Between Ships and Ports,”. The panel “The Positive Economic and Social Impact of Cruise Tourism” will include Aziz Güngör, Global Ports Holding Regional Director at Eastern Mediterranean.

Laura Cimaglia, General and International Affairs Manager at Port Taranto, will engage in a discussion on “What Does a Sustainable Destination Look Like in Practice?”. Anne-Marie Spinosi, Cruise Manager at Corsica Ports will participate in the “Professional Women in Cruise Panel & Networking”. Aris Batsoulis, Head of Technical Services & PFSO at Corfu Port Authority, will join the panel “Discussing Efficient Berth Allocation Strategies”.

Following Seatrade Cruise Med, MedCruise will hold its 65th General Assembly on September 13th, hosted by the Port of Málaga. The event will be attended by 63 members, from 13 countries, from which 48 are port members  and 15 are associate members. The agenda includes the elections for the new President and Board of Directors for the 2024-2027 term. This marks the conclusion of the current mandate, that began in November 2021, led by Figen Ayan from Galataport Istanbul, which has focused on a holistic approach to sustainability and data governance.
