Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada is hoping to receive about 8,000 passengers in 2015, a significant increase on the almost 2,000 passengers of the previous year.

Tarragona Cruise Port presents itself as an exclusive destination, and international cruise destination in the Mediterranean, committed to a diverse tourism strategy to attract premium and luxury shipping companies which want to offer the best and most interesting destinations. The forecast of the Port of Tarragona for this year is to receive 8,000 passengers.

To deal with the arrival of cruise liners, there are currently facilities operational in the Marina Port Tarraco, located on the seafront of the port of Tarragona, which can receive small cruise liners, of less than 140m length. Also, the cruise berth, which is located on the Levante Dock can receive longer ships.

Within the framework of the strategy to position Tarragona as a regular cruise destination, Tarragona Cruise Port is working on the construction of a new terminal, exclusively for cruise liners, which should be operational in 2018. To undergo this new project the services of the international consultants Bermello Ajamil & Partners Europa have been contracted, to technically assess the drafting of the development plan of this new cruise terminal, planned with the objective of receiving, in the medium term, 50.000 cruise passengers per year.

History, culture and sunshine

Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada is set up in the world of cruises as the destination to discover in the Mediterranean. This destination enjoys the international recognition of World Heritage of UNESCO, in which are included archaeological remains of the Roman city; Tarraco Romana, the medieval monastery of Poblet, and the Human Towers; one of the most genuine and unique cultural activities of Europe which is Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO. Tarragona Cruise Port is also synonymous for Gaudí. Reus, native city of Antoni Gaudí, still preserves the places which the genius used to frequent and which were connected to his life.

What’s more, this exclusive Mediterranean destination attracts major tourism and leisure projects which, without a doubt, further increase its tourism potential. In 2016 Ferrari Land is scheduled to open, a new theme park with an area of 75,000 square metres, located next to PortAventura, one of the leading theme parks in Europe. The international strategy of the PortAventura resort makes it the best family leisure destination in Europe, reflected by the over 4 million annual visitors it receives. Another added plus for this European Resort is that it is the summer base for the Canadian circus group Cirque du Soleil, a unique spectacle which is housed in PortAventura for two months a year.

Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada is where all the virtues of the Mediterranean lifestyle converge, with a wide variety of activities for those tourists who want to live unique and unforgettable experiences, such as wine tourism trips to great wine cellars, rich gastronomy, and the offer of golf, sunshine, clean golden beaches, and all kinds of outdoor activities.

Its maturity as a first class tourist destination and its possibilities to open itself up to the world are the main reasons for the definitive entrance of Tarragona and the Costa Daurada into the competitive world of cruises.
