In a landmark achievement, the Heraklion Port Authority proudly announces that the Port of Heraklion has, for the first time, surpassed half a million cruise passengers! On Sunday, November 3, 2024, during the final homeport call of Mein Schiff 6 for 2024, the 500,000th cruise passenger entered our port, marking a notable moment. On that day, three cruise ships docked at the port, bringing this year’s total to unprecedented levels. And the season continues, with another 14 cruise ship calls expected before the year’s end.
This accomplishment underscores the Port of Heraklion’s status as a leading cruise destination in the Eastern Mediterranean and highlights the city of Heraklion, the capital of Crete, as a significant point of reference on the global tourism map. This milestone is the result of years of strategic investments and continual enhancement of services, all with a focus on sustainability and synergy with the local community.
Mr. Minas Papadakis, CEO of the Heraklion Port Authority, stated: “Surpassing half a million passengers is the result of team effort and strategic commitment. This success positions Heraklion among the top international cruise destinations, bringing substantial benefits to the city’s economy and elevating the port’s role in the region’s tourism development.”
