Çeşme

The port city of Cesme is situated on the western most tip of Turkey and is surrounded on three sides by the Aegean Sea. Cesme which was called Cyssus during antiquity, was known to be the port that served Erythrai,one of the 12 Ionian cities. Erythrai has witnessed many eras from the Persian raids to the Greek wars,and many challenges from political struggles to devastating earthquakes until it finally became a part of the Roman Empire .The most fascinating development in the history of the Cesme peninsula started with the dominance of the Roman Empire in the region. This civilization, setting the rules for modern science. Cesme is a mix of many cultures and civilizations during the history, mainly Ionia, Byzantium,Ottoman, Seljuk but also Persian, Greek, Jew, Albanian, Kossack, Circassian, Bosnian, Roman Empire, Italian and Phoenician.
